IN HONOR OF MY DEAR FRIEND...CHERIE (lost her battle to cancer)

Cherie Mitchell’s Celebration of Life
August 10, 1950 – May 5, 2011

There is not enough words to express… nor any plan that  could ever prepared me for this moment….This has to be one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do in my life.

I received a call April 13th @ 6:00 am to Cherie voice…’GIRLFRIEND… it’s not good…I need to see you right away…I have a huge favor to ask you”
Most of us, if given the chance, would love to leave a lasting legacy to show that our lives have made a difference. As we all know Cherie accomplished this. And that’s why we are here to CELEBRATE and honor an Extraordinary women, A Friend, A Mother and A Wife… who touch the very essence of many (a footprint on our soul), she inspired and empowered others to be the best.

I went to the hospital that day… to come to a surreal moment! We laughed, we cried…and watched some episodes of Sex In the City! Stayed up all night gabbing …a definite girls night…I will cherish forever.

I am so grateful to have spent some quality time with her. She shared with both Angie and I the message she wanted us to share with all of you here today.” PAUSE.  In Cherie words…. “I consider myself a very blessed women, I have had such a wonderful life. I not afraid…I know “he has a bigger plan for me…I am grateful & blessed for my wonderful family, my two beautiful children, that I am so very proud of and my wonderful husband. I am blessed to have met so many great people throughout my life. I am the lucky one”
She was at peace, no fear

Cherie had lived an amazing life even though it was rather short. Cherie’s spirit and positive outlook was remarkable. She lived a life that spoke honesty.
I consider myself to be very blessed to have shared this journey of friendship with Cherie. Cherie was an amazing friend; she was the kind of friend that stands by you when you need somebody to be there. Our friendship flourished instantly in 1997 at Mega Mania booth, the connection was like we were kindred spirits- very heartfelt and divine.

We tend to assume, don’t we? That if we appreciate our friend(s), that they know exactly what we’re thinking. We take for granted the expression of love and admiration, joy and appreciation when it comes to our friends. And, sometimes we just get busy and forget to say “thank you,” “you mean the world to me” or “I’m a better person because of you.”

We don’t thank them enough for the amazing lessons they teach us through their friendship, support, and by example. We fail to express the ways they have impacted our lives – from their sense of humor, to their sense of style, from their wisdom and their knowledge, from their kindness to their strength.

Watching Cherie be herself made me want to be my best self. I want to take this time to THANK YOU …GIRLFRIEND, thank you for all I didn’t say often enough. She taught me what is meant to be your authentic self, through her genuine honesty, loyalty and loving compassionate self. My heart is full of so much love because of you.

Everyone has a calling… Cherie sparked a light within herself
I will forever be grateful to have known Cherie. All the memories I have shared with her will forever be cherished and remembered. The lessons of love, loss, letting go, and finally moving forward seem to be some of the most powerful in life. Cherie will forever be missed but I know in the right time, we will meet again

I read this well known quote the other day that resonated so deeply- reminded me of Cherie, by Mother Teresa
“we do not great things, we do small things with great love”.

This is such a beautiful tribute to your friend Cherie, it moved me to tears. It is also a testament to what friendships should be. I'm sure she is still around you with her strong spirit and light. I've missed visiting your blog, I have to come back more often, you always inspire me.
